GATE - German American Training Exchange
GATE – German American Training Exchange – is a Joachim Herz Stiftung project that aims to make it easier for trainees to gain experience in the United States and stimulate the international sharing of ideas between trainees.
The program supports new or existing exchange projects between vocational schools in Germany and partner schools/colleges in the US with grants of up to €12,000. All German vocational schools with a charitable funding agency are eligible to apply. The application is submitted by the funding agency, which receives the approved funds in the form of a donation.
Helping Trainees Gain International Experience
The opportunities for trainees to gain international experience during their training period are limited. The majority of international exchange programs are aimed at students, even though the interest in internships abroad has risen among trainees. In order to close this gap in funding, the Joachim Herz Stiftung offers GATE and “Azubis Go USA” which enables trainees to complete an internship in the US.
