USA in Focus

It all starts with a personal connection. Our founder Joachim Herz enjoyed a close relationship with the USA. He was passionate about the country and its people, their love of freedom and individualism. He also admired their entrepreneurial spirit. Joachim Herz spent many years living and working as an entrepreneur in the USA. He left his American real estate and companies to the foundation. They remain part of the foundation's assets to this very day.
Freedom, individual responsibility and entrepreneurial spirit continue to define the Joachim Herz Foundation today. They are the building blocks for our work as a foundation. We want to promote these values with all the projects we run and support – both in the USA and in Germany.
There is another point that connects the Joachim Herz Foundation with the USA: the country has a special reputation for democracy, an open civil society, a belief in education and freedom of science. These are fields that we support as a foundation and on the existence of which we are dependent.
Our projects with and in the USA
The "Azubis Go USA" program, which was launched in 2014, has made the Joachim Herz Foundation a pioneer in the German-American exchange of trainees. Exchange also plays a central role in our other USA-related projects, such as our Economy Camp for young people from both countries or our programs for young scientists.
We want to continue on this path in the future. After all, exchange is more important than ever, especially in transatlantic relations. This is the only way we can develop an understanding for what the other side is doing. This is why we want to continue to nurture our partnership with the USA and expand our opportunities for dialogue. Even in difficult times.
Information for possible host organizations in Georgia
The Joachim Herz Foundation offers an internship program for trainees who want to gain on-the-job experience in the United States. With its “Azubis Go USA” program, the Joachim Herz Foundation leads the way in terms of German–American trainee exchange programs.
Due to the founder’s and the Foundation’s long-standing ties to the state of Georgia, the Joachim Herz Stiftung and its partners are looking for companies and nonprofit organizations from different industries in Georgia that are willing to accept an intern for a period of two months.
Hosting a trainee provides a number of benefits to your organizations. If you are interested in becoming a host organization for this project or if you have any questions about our activities, please feel free to contact us.
