Diesterweg Scholarship Hamburg
For children and their parents
Germany's first family education scholarship accompanies gifted children and their families on their way to secondary school.
Class teachers can suggest children who have the potential for higher education but have to overcome language or social hurdles on the way to secondary school.
Focus on Hamburg
The Diesterweg Scholarship is run by the Patriotic Society of 1765 in cooperation with the Department of Education and Vocational Training of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. A total of six foundations, including the Joachim Herz Foundation, sponsor the scholarship, which is awarded to elementary school students in the 4th grade at fourteen partner schools in Hamburg.
What does the scholarship include?
The Diesterweg scholarship lasts two years. The scholarship holders explore education and culture in Hamburg together with their parents and siblings.
Overview of the offers:
- Financial support for the purchase of learning materials
- Visit to cultural and educational events in Hamburg
- additional advanced lessons
- Counseling for parents
How does the application process work?
Families cannot apply directly for the Diesterweg Scholarship. Class teachers suggest children who have the potential for higher education but have to overcome language or social hurdles on the way to secondary school.
A prerequisite is the willingness of the parents, who should support and actively encourage their children to participate in the educational program. After selection interviews with the entire family, a jury awards twelve scholarships.
