The Joachim Herz Stiftung is a partner of the Hamburg Excellence Initiative, supporting research in laser physics.
Starting immediately, universities with innovative projects can submit their applications to the Association of Foundations (Stifterverband). University teaching staff from all faculties – whether research staff or professors – may apply for the 15 fellowships in university innovations through their vice-chancellor’s office. The fellowships are generally granted for one year and include a financial award of 50,000 euros.
The fellows are to develop teaching and examination formats as well as reform proposals for degree courses – for example, as regards interdisciplinary cooperation and an increasingly heterogeneous student body. Regular meetings are to be held. The results will be presented and discussed at an annual conference. In this way, the program also aims to improve the collaboration between university teaching staff and students.
The applicants are coordinated by the Association of Foundations for Science in Germany,
Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft. The fellows are selected by an independent jury. The first fellowships are to be awarded in November 2011.
