Making Up for Disadvantages

With the joint program “grips gewinnt”, the Joachim Herz Foundation and Robert Bosch Foundation have developed a constructive reaction to the lack of equal opportunities in Germany. According to the 2010 Education Report, almost one in three children under the age of 18 cannot develop his or her potential due to financial, cultural, or social circumstances. “grips gewinnt” gives keen pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to discover their talents and develop their strengths. To this end, the foundations offer summer academies, excursions, and courses. The youngsters discuss topics concerning the economy, politics, and society, as well as attending cultural events. The courses help prepare them to choose which career path or university degree they wish to pursue.

The  next scholarship period begins September 1, 2012. All children currently in the 7th grade attending a school providing all-round education and who intend to earn their high school diploma may apply.
