Strengthening the Science Hub
The Joachim Herz Stiftung participates in the Hamburg Excellence Initiative in cooperation with the Federal State of Hamburg and the Hamburg Foundation for Research and Science. Within the initiative, 13 Hamburg graduate schools and excellence clusters are receiving funding to prepare and support successful applicants in the second phase (2012-2017) of the German Excellence Initiative program.
The Joachim Herz Stiftung is supporting the “Frontiers in Quantum Photon Science” excellence cluster of the University of Hamburg, which is performing fundamental research in laser physics. This cluster, headed by Prof. Sengstock, has an outstanding international reputation and combines research with intensive investment in the next generation of scientists. This includes not only a graduate school and young talents groups, but also a specially designed program for Hamburg schools: “Light and Schools”. Pupils carry out experiments at the Institute of Laser Physics in close contact with the regular scientists working there and gain exciting insights into the world of research and science.
