Natural Science Excursions
Adventure lies just around the corner. The Hamburg Botany Society organizes trips.
It's an event dedicated to reading fevor – that feeling of forgetting the world around you and getting lost in a book. Simply put, the Hamburg “Seiteneinsteiger” reading festival motivates children to read. In 2011, one of the focal points is non-fiction books, which play an increasingly important role in literature for children and teenagers.
The readings and workshops take place at schools and in public places in Hamburg, October 24th-30th, 2011. At the events, important questions are raised and explained in a suitable way for young audiences. For example, “Where does money come from?” or “The most ingenious inventions of nature”. This way, children and adolescents increase their knowledge in scientific, technical, and business-related subjects and encounter encouragement to read. One highlight is a lecture by the American neurosciences specialist and literacy expert Maryanne Wolf, author of the book “Proust and the Squid: The Story and Science of the Reading Brain”. The evening is hosted by the Joachim Herz Stiftung together with the reading network “Lesenetz Hamburg” and takes place on October 24th at 8 p.m. at Literaturhaus Hamburg.
